Chart preset

Same chart layers as the HoweNav iOS app. BSB & CM93 come from the tiling API (set under Settings); OpenSeaMap, CHS NONNA depths and OSM load directly.

Export = a local download: JSON in HoweNav's Route shape (AirDrop to the iOS app via Files), or standard GPX <rte>.

Saved routes (shared)

Saved on the server, so they're reachable from any device — not just this browser.

Tiling API

Base URL for BSB & CM93 raster tiles. Defaults to /tiles on this origin (same-origin — no CORS needed).

Live data

Weather stations & AIS vessel positions — toggle with the ⛅ / 🐳 buttons on the map. Vessel positions come through the tile server (works on HTTPS); the weather API is called directly. The 🐳 toggle also shows inferred whale sightings: the server logs the fleet around the clock and marks a whale wherever a boat leaves English Bay, then stops and drifts (<8 kn) for 5–90 min. Use the day tracker at the top of the map to browse past days.

About

Desktop companion to HoweNav: open the same charts, click out a route, read distances/bearings/ETA, and export a route the phone can import. Non-navigational reference only.
Depth data is non-navigational reference only — not for navigation. Carry official CHS charts.
